IVF Diaries – Amber Donates Her Eggs – Channel Mum

Channel Mum

Welcome to the IVF Diaries. Jules cannot naturally conceive, and her only chance of getting pregnant is to have IVF with donor eggs. Normally getting donor eggs can be a very long, drawn out process, but Amber contacted Jules to offer to donate her eggs, and we’re following their journey from start to finish.

The first step of the process is to retrieve the eggs, so Amber made her way to the clinic to have the surgery, with Jules by her side the whole time. They have ten eggs – ten potential babies – but will they fertilise and will they attach once inside Jules?

How Does IVF Work?

There are a few different types of IVF, but the one that Jules and Amber are going through is called ‘Egg Donation’. This is where eggs are taken from one woman’s ovaries, fertilized in a lab and then placed into another woman’s womb. Amazing huh? The procedure Amber has in this video is called the Egg Retrieval, which lasts about 30 minutes. While under a general anaesthetic the eggs are removed via a big (kind of scary) needle, and most women feel fine afterwards. Amber even headed off to work afterwards!
