It’s not uncommon to be told to go back home when you get the the hospital with early contractions. Often they won’t admit you until you are at least 4cm dilated, purely because it’s usually quite a long, drawn-out process until things properly ‘get going’. Lots of women fear that they won’t make it to the hospital in time and they’ll end up having an unexpected home birth, and for Jodie Izzo that’s exactly what happened!

Ideally (unlike Jodie) you will have decided before-hand that you want a home-birth! If you’re dreaming of having that first cuddle in the comfort of your own home, then the first steps are to talk to your midwife about it. They’ll be able to guide you and give you a better idea of whether or not a home birth is suitable for you. In some cases, like with a high-risk pregnancy or baby laying in a difficult position, it may not be recommended. If you’re not sure where you want to give birth, or you’re just curious about other people’s experiences, head on over to our Chat & Support Group. There are loads of mums and professionals waiting to answer any questions you have.
